Tomorrow night is the kick off of ‘NightCap’!
What is ‘NightCap’, you ask.
NightCap is a free monthly live webcast for people to gather online in a shared space where dreaming can flourish. Once a month before bed, DreamLabs invites friends and readers to crack open a beer (or make a cup of tea) and tune in. NightCap is an encouraging and supportive virtual environment for discussing dreaming practices, techniques and share insights on the power of dreaming.
We will end the night with a shared intention to remember our dreams in the morning.
NightCap will feature guest interviews with other prominent dream authors as well as a time for Q and A’s with the audience. (Tomorrow’s special guest is author, Ryan Hurd)
Anything can happen. Go ahead, pour yourself your favorite drink and pull up a pillow.
You can join the discussion at 8pm, Thursday, September 27th by going to our tinychat page located here: http://tinychat.com/dreamlabs

Places (Submission)

Ever happen to you to dream of a place you know well, a street in your town or even your own house, but things are not quite like they should be: there’s an extra door, or a turn you don’t remember, and if you take the turn around that corner, you enter uncharted territory. Everything seems perfectly real, but even in your dream you know there’s something not quite right about this place. And when you wake up and walk in the real place, the memory of the dream is so vivid, that you find yourself looking for that turn that never was, but which you KNOW, it should be there, if you could only find it again..

There is a cave opening from the basement of my house, but nobody knows it but me.

Thank you for that wonderful submission that explores the familiar yet strange nature of dreams. Often the locations of our dreams are built from places in our waking lives, but then become altered by our subconscious. These slight obscurities can act as great triggers for having a lucid dream. Sometimes it’s not the strangest thing that brings upon a lucid dream, but something familiar that is just slightly off.

So the past week or so has been awesome! We’ve raised over $16,000 and we couldn’t have done it without you or the wonderful folk at kickstarter.com.
While it was crucial that we hit our goal of raising $9,000, our true goal is to get 1000 people to have their first lucid dream. We still have 16 days till our funding ends, so spread the word around!
If you haven’t yet, check out our project here!

Are you a Dreamer? Yes, you…

What does it mean to be a dreamer? Is it enough that we simply wake up in the morning, wipe the drool from our pillow, and remember a few traces of a dream we already forgot? For those of us who’ve had significant dream experiences—and that’s most of us— we know that there’s more to the other side than just gobledeegook. As the philosophical hobo in this video says, “Things have been tough lately for dreamers”. Sad to say it, but we have lost an important ability, the ability to explore a world that we inhabit every night.

It’s not too late! If we start exploring our dreams now, we’ll see the borders of this box fold away. “It’s not dead, it’s just forgotten.”

Vacations to other Dimensions (Part 1 of 2)

Is it possible to Lucid Dream and travel to other dimensions? I imagine one would have to have a firm understanding of what the different dimensions are to even attempt such a feat. It’s already difficult enough to conceptualize anything past the 4th dimension in the waking world, does it get any more difficult in the dream world? Who could do it better: an advanced Lucid Dreamer learning about the numerous dimensions or a theoretical physicist learning how to become lucid in their dreams?

According to Ms. Rosa Golijan, we would get bored having an endless world to explore in terms of *virtual reality:
“What the hell are you supposed to do in a virtual world anyway—choose between red and blue pills?
I can barely figure out what to do in some daydreams, so I can’t even imagine how quickly a virtual reality world would become dull enough for old hobbies to seem fun again in comparison. ” (via Gizmodo)
I guess someone has never had a lucid dream (or perhaps they just lack creativity).
(*Note: There is a whole argument on the connection between Lucid Dreaming and virtual reality, but lets save that discussion for another day.)
